At last a gig I was happy with , the new line up gelling nicly together , surprizingly tight
and together , a couple of feedback probs with the mics , which because of the size of the venue
we were always going to have problems with . however a nice punchy sound , driving drums & guitars ,
backed by Keyboards & bass , complemented by the new amazing visuals , made it a night to
be remembered .
With a new set list , we started with !Chemical world! , followed by the first airing of the new numbers
!Show stealer! & !The sands of Iwo Jima! , then a couple of hawk numbers !dealing with the devil! &
!Paradox ! , then some more new numbers ! Maginot line ! El-amanien! and !Jarhead ! finishing with the old
Hasbeen Favorite !Apollo 13! , the encore Kosavo & Hippy Trip . brought events to a close .
Many Thanks to all who came and enjoyed , it was certainly the best Hasbeen performance
since the birthday bash last year , see you all at the Sonic world festival .

Victoria Inn short review
Category: Music
It was always going to be a risk staging this event on a Sunday at the Vic , with Sunday not normally a band night , However the faithfull posse braved the elements to attend what turned out to be a fantastic evening of music & entertainment.
Firstly with in house PA and engineer we didnt en-visage the problems we encounted , long delays with the soundcheck , equitment mal-funtioning , not enough DI boxes to accomodate us etc etc all the usual problems which seem to follow us . one day we will have a stress free set up , on with the show.
Harvey Bainbridge opened the show , with a superb set around 30min in lenght, one or two new numbers complete with usual favorites including Freefall, and dreamworker , complete with Nemesis on Dance , made this a fantastic visual exprience.
Dr Hasbeen took the stage around 9.40pm ,10min late as the engineer seemed to be on some sort of fag break ..Started with Take me now , Kosavo, Dealing with the devil , chemical world, paradox , Maginot line , Apollo13 , Dunkirk & Neddle gun , we had to finish early as the Vic music deadline on a Sun is 10.20pm , overall a cracking set, which unfortuanatly suffered through a keyboard mal-function in the later stages .
Many thanks to all who came which included Quintessence,s Maha Dev , big thanks to Harvey Bainbridge , and kotage who took over on the visuals. onwards & upwards to the Red lion in May

In Case of Santa Attack. 1st December, 2007
Category: Music
Many many thanks to all who came braved the heavy rain & high winds , especially the campers who deserve a special mention. We arrived at 4pm to set up , im always moaning that we dont leave ourselves enough time to set up, so that would be quite enough time to sound check and relax before lift off. How wrong i was! problem with faulty leads, equitment mal-functioning , still sorting the lightshow out at 8pm , by then the venue was filling up nicely.
Attempted lift off at 9.30pm with !TAKE ME NOW ! struggling to escape the atmosphere, the sound was rebounding straight at us from the wall of people at the front of the stage area resulting in rather a muddy sound .. After tweaking a few levels the band soon settled , KOSAVO followed with Jake our new singer all painted in silver on fine form. MAGINOT LINE next a brand new song in the Hasbeen tradition which i hope will become a firm favorite , very catchy number ! GOLDEN VOID with Jane on vox and some lead from Mark from Soundforce guesting on guitar , HIPPY TRIP ,PARADOX, CHEMICAL WORLD, URBAN GUERILLA , JARHEAD, BRAINSTORM , & finishing on NEDDLE GUN .
Fantastic atmosphere & crowd , very enjoyable, lovely to meet new and old friends , the quality of our sound could have been better but the structure of the venue had alot to do with that which was unavoidable. The line up was
Martyn Hasbeen,Guitar , samples, vox
Jane , Dance Vox.
Jake( Silver Surfer) Robinson , vocals
Izzy - Drum
Mad Mike - Bass
Amy - Keyboards
Lights - Katie.
Thanks must also go out to Mark of Soundforce who rather nervously stepped up to add a bit of noodling - his first time out.
Also surprise guest of the night, in an audience, guinness drinking capacity was the delightful Harvey B, dropping by for a driving break on route to MK.
Nice to see Nicola, who travelled all the way up from Kent, and special mention must go to the young lad who travelled to see us whilst feeling very poorly indeed and camping in his mums caravan for the night. He was ably rewarded, in true SpaceRock style, with an introduction to Harvey B, who was as gracious as can be, resulting in one happy young fan with stars in his eyeballs.

Live & Let Live review
Many many thanks to all who came and filled the place , this venue really didnt deserve such a great crowd , but thats another story , on with the music . with our new sound system , it took quite a while to sound check, the usual dodgy leads etc , and with the general lack of stage space making it difficult to bring this together. We welcomed Jake Robinson our new lead singer making his debut , with Jane , dance vox, Amy Keyboards , Mike , bass , Izzy , Drums and myself on Guitar and vocals ,this was the running order of songs TAKE ME NOW KOSAVO HIPPY TRIP GOLDEN VOID CHEMICAL WORLD PARADOX URBAN GUERILLA JARHEAD BRAINSTORM NEDDLE GUN / ORGONE Generally the set went ok thundering along , well pleased with the sound except some feedback from Docs guitar when playing lead ,( dropped a few bum notes sorry), a bit raw in parts , but to be expected as this was our first gig all together , we played more Hawkwind covers then we usually do , as Jake was more familiar with them , next gig we will introduce more Hasbeen tracks so onward and upward to the Red lion on Sat 1st Dec , Video footage and slide show featured on profile .

space rock spectacular
Well really struggling to put into words ,some sort of review , really the best way is to bury this! in the what could go wrong did !catagory. With 5 bands and special guests all to preform in a time of 4 hours ,and with10 minute allocated changover times it seemed an impossible task which it proved to be ,especially as the sound engineer failed to arrive . As the night went on the sound got gradually worse. and the event was running over time , by the time it was Dr Hasbeens slot it was a case of plug in and go. no sound check and hope for the best .this is were the fun begins. Starting with Kosavo clearly things were not right on stage, Janes vocal inaudiable, guitar inaudiable , keyboards high in mix , the best we could do is carry on , Hippy trip followed, then things went from bad to worse, on hitting the first chord of Assault & Battery one of my strings kept de-tuning resulting in mangled mess of sound , when finally sorted ,the inaudiable sound on stage made it impossible to perform to our usual standard , if that wasnt bad enough the amp i was using mal-functioned, an replacement amp was found and finally i could actually hear myself, because of time restrictions we were told we had to finish, so we ended with neddle gun , with special guest Steve Dog from Tubliah Dog , and guess what !! vocal inaudiable!it was just.one of those nights! we clearly struggled to cope On a more positive note It was nice meeting old and new friends ,nice atmosphere, and in a way a learning curve , Doc

Red Lion Spaced out party 11/8/07
Current mood:
busy
Category: Music
Saturday 11th August …. 13th Annual Spaced Out Birthday Party, and the sun shone down, the Red Lion stayed open all day long, dispensing cold beer and the usual splendid hospitality.
An idyllic small village pub, run by Andy and Amanda, the Red Lion has seen some top Has been performances in the past, and this was to be one of the best.
Glowsticks were bought and dished out, bemused locals and their dog wearing theirs with pride.
A number of dedicated space rock fans had travelled major distances to be here, and the good ship Has been embraces you with open arms and salutes your fortitude!
Despite new bassist Mike blowing himself six feet across the room by sticking his fingers in things electrical, he actually played really well for his first time out. Even his mum, who had toddled along to see what all the fuss was about, shed a proud tear or two.
The support act failed to turn up on time, so music was dutifully and delightfully provided by Kozmic Ken, who had travelled up from Amersham in his multicoloured kaftan and the poncho to end all ponchos., til Dr Has been took the helm at around 9.20pm.
The engines powered up with Take Me Now, filling up the room with sound, with Amy fattening out the sound with some lovely keys.
This was quickly followed by Kosovo, which is fast becoming a favourite, with it's simple but driving sound and manic midsection. Again, Amy filled out the sound with some keys, Mike and Izzy kept the bones nice and solid, and Jane threw her vocals into the mix, taking the middle section into new ground by grabbing a toy handgun and boldly taking Doc where he had never gone before with chanting … "I;ve got a Pistol Gun, Pointed at My Head!!!!!!!!! At my Heaaaaaddd!!!!".
Doc was having a great time and turned on a superb version of Orgone Accumulator.
Next up was the HW standard, Golden Void, with Jane on vox, and Doc taking the low harmony, Amy threw in some lovely string sounds and the rhythm boys kept it at a nice pace. It was at this point that it became clear that Mikes little altercation with a bolt of lightning had tripped the FX into default, and Doc deftly put it right, without anyone really being any wiser.
Despite having a bit of a sticky up hairdo and the vague smell of roasted T Shirt, Mike seemed none the worse for his earlier adventure!
New number Jarhead was next, closely followed by old favourite, Hippy Trip, a bouncy number w hich lends itself nicely to a bit of a singalong.
Next up is one of Doc's all time HW faves, Paradox. He sang his little socks off, with Jane hopping in to add some vocal harmony in between bouts of slow serpentine dance. Amy's string sounds gave Doc loads of room to really expand on guitar, and he really turned it on.
Another new number, Chemical World, was aired and well received - the show ended with Utopia, with Doc and Jane combining well on vocals, Izzy playing really tight, putting in some really funky fills which gave Jane loads of ammunition to throw in some heavy duty hip dancing, echoing Izzys rhythm fills .
And - suddenly, the Ship touched down, and that was that.
"Thanks Folks - See you again soon", the parting shot from Doc, brought shouts of "Morrreee" from the audience, so the engines were given another burst of fuel, and the crowd's favourite, Silver Machine lifted off. Doc actually remembered the words! Jane didn't! So she took the mic out into the crowd and gave the audience the opportunity to express themselves and give herself a good kicking.. What followed must be one of the longest versions of Silver Machine ever performed, a ten minute space jam which was great fun for everyone.
Quote from Doc ….. "I seriously think this was the best we have ever played. The sound was spot on, I remembered all the words for once, debut musicnauts Mike and Amy on top form, Izzy displaying some of the best drumming I've ever heard and a great stage presence and vox from Jane, together with an electric atmosphere (no pun intended Mike), made this a truly memorable night.
WE HAVE LIFT OFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sitwell Arms, Morton, Derbyshire.
Ah well .... all the rain, thunderstorms and flash floods had threatened to turn this event into a total washout ... but right on cue, the sun came out, and, although the ground was still a bit damp and everyone had grass stains on their pants, the event drew quite a crowd.
Dr Hasbeen's day began in the usual chaotic way, with Mike the Roadie still drunk from the previous night's excesses, Izzy's car breaking down and the drum transport going awol .. Rusty Bullethole was lost in action, so a makeshift lineup of raggle taggle space gypsies arrived a bit late with 20 mins to set up and soundcheck.
We hauled ourselves onstage (no steps or ramp to this trailer ...) at about 5.50 - Doc manning Guitar and whibbly whoosy samples, Jane on Vox and general leaping about, Izzy taking over on bass and Richard Bradley bravely taking up the sticks and keeping time.
The band had had all of ONE HOUR's practise. Holy shit! You could almost hear four arseholes clenching in unison. We didnt expect this to be an easy ride, and thanks to a horrendous mix going on, we weren't far wrong. The monitor mix was all over the place, and the sound engineer was having real probs putting it right. Mart couldnt hear what he was doing, all Jane had coming through her monitor was Mart's guitar and a whole shitload of feedback, so we were all flying totally blind by the seat of our pants.
Despite our aghast looks at each other and the sound guy, the crowd seemed to be into it (and out of it).
Jane enjoyed Kosavo (being able to ALMOST hear something and having Mart add some vox to harmoize to), even though we had to miss out the middle part of the song because someone forgot to teach that bit to the stand in drummer....
The HW standard, Angels of Death followed - Mart loved it, Jane hated it, again, unable to hear anything but guitar feedback through the monitor.
A new number, Play By Numbers was aired for the first time with Izzy and Richard goggling at each other in disbelief - having never actually heard it, let alone played it until that moment....
Golden Void was next. Jane wishing she'd worn her incontinence pants, as Mart decided not to bother adding his vox cause he'd forgotten the words, smiling benignly through his medication as the poor moo flew not only blind but solo without a parachute. Rich was struggling as the feedback got quite vicious at this point.
Suicide Machine rocked nicely as Jane buggered off and sat at the side of the truck picking splinters out of her bare feet, swearing like a sailor. The only drawback being Doc forgetting the words again.... this ran straight into Utopia, which someone had forgotten to tell Jane about, so she had to hurriedly get back to the mic, glancing at Mart waiting for him to cue in, but he'd decided the key was too high, and, anyway, he was past caring...he just kept nodding til she got the message and lunged into it anyway.
A wierd day, Evolution suffering similar sound problems, and all being rectified nicely by the time Jack Viper took to the stage with their Jack Daniels, cigs and colourful metaphors. They played a cracking set of khol eyed cock rock to a well lubricated audience and brought the place down. Many thanks to Sitwell MCC who hosted the event, and all for charity, and to the wonderful lady with the little rock star children who won the wet T Shirt competition and donated her prize to the charity fund. What a star.
Here's to the next one. (Rock n Roll ....
)
